Ground Turkey Taco Lettuce Wraps for a Healthy Dinner

ground turkey taco lettuce wraps, ground turkey taco wrap

You all know I love exploring and making healthy dishes. It all started because I wanted to lose weight and now it's more for a healthier lifestyle for a longer life.

Now, tacos are one of the most loved Mexican dishes, whether it's to remedy a hangover or for a quick hunger fix. The thing though is that it can be the opposite of healthy eating. But we all can't stay away from it, amirite? There's literally hundreds of taco recipes out there that made a healthier recipe for it, all to get the best of both worlds. There won't be any substitute for the real thing of course, but these recipes can still satisfy the palate.

Easy Pork Ramen Recipe, Because Everybody's Into Ramen

This idea came to me after my mom and dad gave me some ideas on what to cook my husband for dinner. I told them that Nick isn't a fan of repeating dishes (except for Subway!) but that I didn't want to slave away every night in our kitchen. So they said the best way for variety is to boil pork shoulder.

They gave me a variety of recipes - slice the pork shoulder after and serve it with a dipping sauce or serve it with fried tofu. My mom said to store the broth in mason jars and use it as my base for sinigang (a sour broth soup favorite among Filipinos). But for someone who's watched countless cooking shows featuring ramen (in fact this week we just watched an episode of Chef's Table on Netflix which featured a Jewish chef whose ramen is quite famous even in Japan), I knew the base of any ramen is either pork or chicken broth. So I could easily make ramen from this.

Spaghetti Aglio e Olio

Ever since falling in love again with Everyday Italian by Giada de Larentiis on Food Network, I've tried replicating her garlic and olive oil pasta. But every time I do, the taste doesn't seem quite right. Although I think it's because I use Spaghetti made of quinoa so it could at least be healthy. And if you've cooked quinoa pasta, then you know if you're not careful, it could easily be a miss. I've had a couple of misses so of course pairing it with just olive oil and garlic doesn't really improve much on the taste.

A Very Healthy & Tasty Lunch

I love Pinterest and always go there to look for healthy recipes. It's my go-to website/app before I start listing down my grocery items for the week and of course it helps that recipes always look good there. Anyway, I found these two dishes there and since I love Asian food and healthy dishes, these immediately drew my attention - Japanese Quinoa Salad and Korean-Grilled Chicken Breast. Put them together and you have a tasty and healthy protein-packed Asian meal.

Tebasaki Chicken

I love Japanese cuisine. Their cuisine intensifies the flavor of each ingredient and makes use of their aroma to bring out a craving and completes the satisfaction for the dish. Ingredients are carefully chosen to either complement each other or bring out the other's intense flavor. And the Japanese' attention to detail ensures that we're in for a treat beyond their appealing presentation.

An Anime-Inspired Dish Coz Why Not?

If there is one thing that friends from high school would remember me for - it is that I absolutely love anime. It started with my best friend insisting that I watch one of the hit animes back in our grade school years (I'm not gonna say how long ago that was!). After that, I was hooked.

Fast forward to a lot of years later and I'm still as hooked as I was back then. But my focus shifted from looking at the bishounen characters (I don't think anyone would be surprised that I spent most of my teenage years drooling over fictional men - I did attend an exclusive all girls school!) to noticing how yummy the food and bento boxes are in these animes! I've started drooling from boys to food. Haha! You can see how much I've grown there, right? Or did I actually? Haha!

A Christmas Plate For Dinner

This was an unexpected Christmas plate. I've just only recently changed plates (first time to do so too since I moved out) to welcome the Fall season and just happened to have spinach tortillas in my fridge. It was even an impromptu buy - I rarely order wraps but I thought green wraps seem healthy and look cuter too so I went ahead and bought when I saw one at my local grocer.

So when I looked for what to make one night and saw what I had in my fridge, I thought, " Cool, I'd have myself a lovely feast tonight!" And before I know it, I had Christmas all over my plate! Yep, I was a happy kid and just had to snap away!

Brownie In A Mug

Yep, it's another in-a-mug creation.

It's just so easy and fast to make and perfect for those living on their own. I crave for sweets from time to time (don't we all?) and it's a hassle to make one big cake (unless you're purposely sharing with family and friends) when all I really want is something fast and small to satisfy my want. I mean, I can't eat a whole cake by myself or eat it for days, no matter how appealing that looks in movies, haha! I'd share if I ever wanted to make a big one.

For The Love Of Shrimp

I'm not much a fan of shrimp but I do love seafood and they're also one of the easiest to cook so I buy fresh shrimps once in a while. And I remember loving a particular shrimp recipe (aside from tempura, which I've yet to learn to make) that my dad makes with butter. A simple search led me to the simplest of recipe - Garlic Butter Shrimp. Garlic and butter together? Sold!

Healthy Lunch Idea: Salmon & Quinoa

So I've been pretty much obsessed with quinoa ever since my trainer told me about it being full of protein and fiber. Such a perfect dish for anyone wanting to live a healthy-eat-clean lifestyle! It's easy to prepare and experiment in - add any kind of meat, some veggies and herbs and you have a fulfilling and heathy meal even on its own!

Carrot Cake In A Mug

So I saw a cheap clean eats video for a carrot cake in a mug and thought this is perfect for the carrot-cake loving me! I wouldn't have to sweat out grating a kilo of carrots to make a big cake when all I really want is a small piece, just enough to satisfy a craving.

Salmon Cakes Over Kale Salad

New favourite salad. Zesty. And flavourful.

Kale was such a surprise for me. I've only ever used lettuce or mixed spring greens for my salad base and only knew about Kale when I started juicing. And even then, I'd buy Kale to juice or give to my bunny. It was a friend who said he used Kale for his salad and I thought maybe I could do the same, after all it's packed with protein that I need in my diet.
